Fabric Recommendations

This bag pattern is designed for medium weight fabrics (cotton or synthetics) and relies on interfacing for structure.
Apply one layer of medium-stiff interfacing, such as Vlieseline H250 or Pellon 808.
The recommended interfacing provides great shape while remaining manageable for household sewing machines. If the layers are too thick, trim the interfacing away from the seam allowances.
For extra stability, you can insert a piece of stiff plastic into the bottom of the bag after it is finished but before you close the lining.

To promote sustainability, I upcycle unwanted clothing into bags. To ensure a garment has enough fabric, I cut out my interfacing pattern pieces first and lay them directly onto the fabric. This method is also useful if you are purchasing fabric with a different width than the one listed in the table below:
