Fabric Recommendations:
The bag gets its boxy shape from attaching the fabric to bag foam or medium to stiff interfacing.
If the fabric is thin then use bag foam such as Vlieseline Style Vil Fix or Pellon Flex-Foam FF77/FF78
If the fabric is padded then use regular interfacing such as Decovil Light.
The recommended interfacing provides great shape while remaining manageable for household sewing machines. If the layers are too thick, trim the interfacing away from the seam allowances.
For extra stability, you can insert a piece of stiff plastic into the back of the bag after it is finished but before you close the lining.
LIST OF MATERIALS:
To promote sustainability, I upcycle unwanted clothing into bags. To ensure a garment has enough fabric, I cut out my interfacing pattern pieces first and lay them directly onto the fabric. This method is also useful if you are purchasing fabric with a different width than the one listed in the table below:
Materials for the Boxy bag:
| Size: Boxy Bag | Material | Inches | CM |
| Outer Fabric | Medium-weight fabric such as velour or thin fabric such as satin. Fabric can be slightly elastic because it will be glued onto a foam padding that will stop it from stretching.
Depending on what type of strap you’d like to make, you will need extra fabric for that. |
